Robbie’s room is one of my favorites. I scoured Pinterest for inspiration, wanting to achieve a look that spoke to my son’s vibrant personality and wide-ranging interests, without appearing too ‘baby’ or overdone.
I debated paint vs wallpaper and went back and forth on color scheme. Once I found the Serena & Lily Dockside Stripe wallpaper featured here, the rest came together quickly. The blue & red stripe was too busy to do floor-to-ceiling, so I brought in a half-wall of beadboard to ground the space. Next I brought in the star-spangled wallpapered ceiling, which matches the paint of the beadboard perfectly.
For furniture, I anchored the playful primary colors of the walls & ceiling with a burled wood dresser, woven storage baskets, brass accented lighting, and a leather reading chair. I added layers of color in his soft furnishings, with a traditional rug and upholstered bed with trim that references the wallpaper.
To ensure the room reflects the sensibilities of its occupant, I brought in artwork that speaks to Robbie’s earliest days living in London and his evergreen fascination with cars. The resulting aesthetic is distinctly English, with a classic vintage Americana flair that I hope our sweet boy will enjoy for years to come.
